Homecoming 2008
Homecoming

This Week at Lorenzo ISD- 10/20/2008

by LHS Newspaper Class

October 22, 2008

The featured teacher for this week is Cynthia Reyna.  She is a teacher’s aide in the resource department. She is originally from Georgia.  Mrs. Reyna does have a son.  He is an eighth grader at Lorenzo Junior High School.  Mrs. Reyna has been a substitute for four years, but this is her first year as a teacher’s aide.  Mrs. Reyna says she wishes to be an English teacher in the future.

What’s been going on this week at Lorenzo High School?  One of Ms. Huntoon’s science classes has been building a robot.  The people that have participated are Sherelle Jackson, Dezarae Thomas, Viri Morales, Veronica Alcala, and Johanna Cruz.  The robot has to enter a warehouse, switch, on a light, pick up and assemble airplane parts, then hang it up.  Although the class has their bad times, Ms. Huntoon thinks they are well behaved overall.

Up and down the wonderfully decorated halls, Homecoming of 2008 started off with a bang on Monday, October 13.  Monday was tacky day and was followed by jersey day on Tuesday, black out day on Wednesday, super hero day on Thursday, and purple day on Friday.  On Friday the whole school was involved and pumped up.  The band played up and down the halls, followed by an exciting parade with great floats from all grades, starting with elementary on up.  Among all of the floats the freshmen placed third.  Elementary placed second, and the junior class received first place.  Great job juniors!  Get ready for that pizza party.  After the parade was a very spirited pep rally that had everyone excited.  Later on that evening the game began with a powerful punch by the mighty Hornets.  We were winning by a good margin at half time, which led to the announcement of the Homecoming Court.  Marissa Mendoza and Marissa Castillo were the queen candidates, and the king nominees were Louis Castenada and Angel Mendoza.  The winners were Louis Castenada and Marissa Castillo.  Congratulations!  The game was very exciting with our Lorenzo Hornets coming out on top against the New Home Leopards.  We won the game with the final score of 52-32.  Great job boys!  What a way to end a wonderful Homecoming week.
